In business you win some and you lose some. The successful simply win more than they lose and they win the important ones.

What is Important?

The trouble is most people don't know what they don't know, or need to know, and don't make the effort to find out. In these times of uncompromising challenge and uncertainty you have to be on the ball. The laid-back approach of the boom times and an ‘I know it all' attitude are yesterday. This is why we are so excited about us being together for ‘Touchstone of Excellence', our next education forum.

As one of my favourite people puts it; "If I go to a meeting and learn one thing that can be successfully incorporated into my business, I've made a good investment of time and money." One of the things of which we are most proud is how you often have said to us, "Just what I needed, it was as if you had read my mind".

Proactive

Yes, continuous success is not an accident. We can all be lucky sometimes, but all the time, never. Success is a commitment to be constantly on the alert, read and react to the vital signs of your business measurement. "Get to the problems before they get to you." We all need inspiration, expertise and the understanding of the right know-how. Do you remember my nail trick? What looks to be impossible one minute becomes easy once you "know- how".

I love my old boss's saying "There is nothing as powerful as an idea for which the time is right."

What is Right - Right Now?

We live in a temperate climate where devastating extremes of weather and natural disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes are rare. People, animal species and plants are all products of their environment. As people we are more temperate than extreme but that tends to mean we have to be drowning or up to our rear ends in crocodiles before we react to sometimes obvious challenges. We tend towards only dealing with problems after they have happened, a style of management known as "Management by Default". Or, in other words, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it". Business is dynamic and needs regular and sometimes constant attention and planning. The business climate today is extreme and whereas in the past you may have had time to fix problems, such as the need for new clients, now a temperate style of management or procrastination could be a recipe for disaster.
